Community & Parent Support

At Coxhoe School, we work very closely with individuals and other groups from the Community.  We believe that the local primary school should be the heart of the Village and, in recent years have developed strong links with all aspects of the Community.  This enables us to work together as a community and really make a difference.

Parental Engagement

The school encourages open communication between home and school and issues regular newsletters to parents, via their children, detailing events and particulars concerning school. These events are also communicated through our school website.

May we take this opportunity to thank the people of Coxhoe for the faithful support, interest and encouragement given to the school. We aim to build on the links already established in our community, and, with your help, make our school a place of which we can all be justifiably proud.

Parent/Family Helpers

We are always grateful to those parents who come in to school and help. Don’t be shy! If you have some time to spare or a particular talent or area of expertise then we would love to hear from you.

Currently parent helpers are involved in supporting children with reading, helping in practical and creative subjects such as cookery, sewing, art, music and design technology. So if you are free, even for an hour a week, come in and speak to Mrs Caygill (Deputy Head) who organises our parent helpers – she would love to hear from you.

Prior to commencing your work in school all helpers will be required to have successfully completed an enhanced DBS check which helps us ensure pupils are safeguarded.

The Friends of Coxhoe Primary School includes parents, carers,  grandparents, and members of the community who work tirelessly to support our school.  They meet at school in the evening and plan a wide range of fundraising events.  They then work closely with the staff to spend funds raised on a variety of different projects including school visits to the pantomine,  audio visual equipment, outdoor development, ....the list is endless.

The events themselves are also great fun for the children.  The school disco is popular and the Summer Fair is becoming grander each year.

The group welcomes new members with open arms as the list of jobs grows longer.  If you would like to be involved please ask at the office.

How we raise funds...

We work closely with the school to identify ways to enrich what school is able to offer. This includes a broad range of items/experiences. With the support of the wonderful families in Coxhoe we run bake sales, discos, film nights, Christmas shopping evenings, sponsored name but a few.

Requests from school include:

  • more playground equipment;
  • outdoor development;
  • improved technology;
  • a welcoming library

Community Pantry

We are proud to support our local community pantry who in turn do an amazing job at serving our school family and wider community.

Our families are welcome to drop contributions off for the pantry any Thursday morning. It can be left at the office door where it will be collected and delivered to the pantry.

Thank you and What's next:

We cannot thank the PTA and our wider school family enough for their drive to continue fundraising throughout the pandemic.

We have really missed the usual activities where we welcome families into school and fund raise, as well as enjoying ourselves. However, parents and staff have been very creative and continued their hard work to attempt to fund raise in so many different ways – the local businesses have joined in too. There are a few numbers left in our 100 square game with some super prizes up for grabs – my personal favourite is the donation from La Chocolatrice.

After half term we have planned for a large scale raffle and we hope to hold a mini version of a summer fair. This is currently in planning and we hope to share more details with you soon.

To help us with this we are holding a non uniform day on Friday 25/6/21. Children will be invited to make a donation of chocolate, sweets or toiletries – all will be gratefully received, from a single bar of chocolate to a box, a tube of Smarties to a giant bag of Haribos, a single bath bomb to the giftsets. Together, we will be able to make some super raffle prizes, tombola stalls etc. However, we must stress that this donation will be optional as we are very aware that COVID has had a financial impact on many of our families.

Halloween Trail 2020

The school staff and our PTA were determined that our children did not miss out on Halloween fun this year.  Every child took home a treat bag with sweets and a small craft activity.

They were also challenged to a super safe Scavenger Hunt.  Whilst out on family walks, they had to look clues to complete a quiz..  Everyone who took part enjoyed an extra treat on return to school.
