"Students need to be given the chance to CREATE with technology, not just learn to use it!"
Computing
What we say about computing at Coxhoe Primary School
Our Computing Lead, Miss Rodgers, says...
Leading a subject children love is a privilege! Watching children develop skills that are needed in all job roles and everyday life, as well as create a variety of media, is a pleasure. Using laptops, iPads and Chromebooks, the children can demonstrate so many technology talents and I love to see their passion for this shine through their lessons. Technology is constantly developing and everchanging in our modern world so it is my aim to ensure the children of Coxhoe Primary School are confident with their basic skills and are exposed to as much computational thinking and media creation as possible! Although with technology comes dangers, the children of Coxhoe amaze me daily with their online safety knowledge and advice; it is wonderful to see them use technology effectively and safely! I truly believe computing is a key to future aspirations, as there is no job that doesn't rely on technology in some way.The Department for Education’s Unit for Future Skills suggests that digital skills are critical to the future of most jobs, while the Department for Culture, Media and Sport found such skills required for 82% of all jobs posted online. Therefore, equipping our students with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve in computing, not only opens their eyes to our modern world, but also enables them to achieve their full potential regardless of the path they choose to take.
Our Computing Ambassadors say...
Hi we are the computing ambassadors and we lead computing with Miss Rodgers. Computing is by far the best lesson/subject as we can be practical. We explore computers, looking at the pros and cons of the internet. We leearn about what to do if something happens. For instance, if you get a virus. We explore photography, coding and animation and we love to edit on different platforms.
Children from across the school say...
"I like to make pictures on the iPad" EYFS
"I loved learning about Pictograms and making them on the iPads!" Year 1
"We love doing computing on a Monday and using the printed keyboards to help us remember how to type!" - Year 2
"Computing lessons are the best lessons!" - Year 3
"We've been learning how to make formula using the formula wizard!" - Year 4
"We love all computing lessons but particularly when we get to use the Chromebooks!" Year 5
"We have learned so many skills that can help us in jobs when we are older!" Year 6
Curriculum Intent
It is our intent at Coxhoe Primary School to provide all of our children with a high-quality education in computing which provides access to an ever changing and expanding digital world. We wish to develop a love of computing and provide children with the ability to enhance their knowledge, skills and understanding through different types of media whilst keeping safety at the forefront of their minds.
