PE

What we say about PE at Coxhoe Primary

Our PE lead, Mrs Tufts, says...

At our school, PE is a highlight of the week! Children love learning a wide range of skills and sports, and they enjoy putting these into practice through fun and active games. Their enthusiasm doesn’t stop in lessons — at playtimes, it’s fantastic to see pupils choosing sporting equipment and continuing their learning independently. PE also helps children understand the importance of exercise, with everyone striving to be active for at least 30 minutes each day in school.

Our Year 6 PE Ambassadors say...

Hi, we are the PE ambassadors. We like to keep people happy, healthy and active. We have a range of sports that we can play to have our daily 30 minutes of active activities. We are here to motivate you to be active. PE is very fun to do as we enjoy a range of activites, such as football, basketball, gymnastics, OAA, athletics and many more.

Children from across school say...

I love that we do exercise in PE! I like running and jumping. We learnt a Christmas dance. (Willow - Year 1)

I love jumping off the box tops in PE! (Louie - Year 2)

I like being goal defender in netball. (Pryce - Year 3)

I like to play lacrosse games with the lacrosse sticks! (Hollie - Year 4)

PE keeps you active. We work together in teams. We've been learning the rules for tag rugby and how to defend. (William - Year 5 )

I love sports! In PE, we have been playing netball and learning all the rules. In swimming, we have been learning all the different strokes. (James - Year 6)

Swimming Data

Swimming is an important skill and can encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. All Local Authority schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2. The National Curriculum for PE sets out the expectation that pupils should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke)
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

We have loved our first two PE sessions with Mr Todd and Mr Flatman. We have been working on our core strength skills as we practised lots of different ways of moving. We slithered like snakes and shuffled on our bottoms. We have also been practising our throwing and catching skills with beanbags. This was very challenging but we tried our best!
