Tolkien Class: Thoughts on workshops with Adam Bushnell:
Summary of what you did : Adam worked with us around the subject of children in the war. He brought in some smells from the war and his pet tortoise Jet. He also brought in gas masks. We wrote about senses and wrote about what it would be like in the war.
What did you like about the visit?: We got to stroke Jet. I liked how we got to watch a video of what it was like in the war. We learned about the kids wearing gas masks. I liked smelling the different things. I liked finding out about the fake news - propaganda
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? I learnt that when they were in the war the phrase keep calm and carry on was used. We learnt that they used the underground in London as bunkers to shelter from the bombs. We learnt that in the middle of the war they used to give hot drinks and coffee out to everyone to keep them calm.
What will you tell others about the visitor? It was amazing to use our smelling sense to smell the war. It was a great experience to see what it would be like for people.

Dickens Class: Thoughts on our visit from The Auckland Project:
Summary of what you did : We learned about religious diversity and how different religions have different beliefs, celebrations and wear different things.
What did you like about the visit?: The best part was trying on different clothing. RE is the best topic to learn about as it teaches us about respect.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? We learned the different places of worship by linking artefacts. We learned more details about rituals.
What will you tell others about the visitor? I would tell people they should do it. It was really interesting and helped add on to the knowledge we already had. Everyone should have a turn looking at real artefacts and clothes,
Which careers/jobs did you see? Historian, teacher, priest, volunteer for charity, museum guide.
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Knowledgeable, patient, respectful, open-minded, a good listener
Dickens Class: Thoughts on the filming session with TINARTS:
Summary of what you did : We joined in a dance workshop and then were part of a movie to show to other children for PULSE.
What did you like about the visit?: I liked the dramatic dancing and the links to space. It was fun being on camera because when I am older I want to be on tv.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? I learned a fun way to remember the order of the planets from the sun. We learned some knew fun dramatic dance moves. We learned how it would feel to be on camera.
What will you tell others about the visitor? I would 100% tell people to try this out because it is so much fun and active.
Which careers/jobs did you see? Dancer, dance teacher, actress, choreographer, movie producer
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Balance, flexibility, determination, passion and resilience.
Tolkien Class: Thoughts on Meet a Scientist:
Summary of what you did : We joined a webchat where 3 scientists answered our questions about science. The STEM scientists were super at answering all the questions we had.
What did you like about the visit?: I liked how we could ask them anything about science. I liked that we could actually talk to them and they would answer our questions. Every question had an answer. I liked that we were all involved in it.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? I learnt about the scientists and what kind of scientists they are. I learnt about science careers and what they wanted to be when they were young.
What will you tell others about the visitor? Really really fascinating. The scientists were very clever. It was great to personally ask them questions.
Which careers/jobs did you see? Scientist, Museum worker, University lecturer, Arctic biologist
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Know about science and be organised.
Dickens Class: Thoughts on our Mini Police training:
Summary of what you did : We learned different ways of keeping you safe, vehicles and their use, who to call in different emergencies and had a chance to see and hold some of the tools the police used.
What did you like about the visit?: I liked that they were really nice. They gave us different activities to do and a booklet to complete. It was fun seeing our progress from bronze to gold as we completed them.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? The police can track you from finger prints and footprints. The dogs can sniff out the criminals and cameras under helicopters can catch them too. 999 and 911 both work because so many children watch American programs.
What will you tell others about the visitor? I would recommend it because it wasn’t too hard and it was interesting learning stuff about the police.
Which careers/jobs did you see? Police, dog trainers, community officer, pilot, navigation officer
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Resilience, mentally strong, wise, make good choices, open-minded
Dickens Class: Thoughts on Meet a Scientist:
Summary of what you did : We joined an online chat where scientists answered our questions all about science. We typed in any questions we had and they responded.
What did you like about the visit?: I liked how they said no question is a silly question. I liked that we got to talk to an actual scientist. I liked that it was full of facts.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? I learned that there are so many different routes in science and you don’t always have to go to uni to become one. I learned some interesting facts to keep my gut healthy.
What will you tell others about the visitor? You should try and speak to a scientist because they teach you lots of new information. They are full of knowledge and make you feel welcome in the chat.
Which careers/jobs did you see? Scientist, museum worker, science teacher, researcher, author of non-fiction books
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Organised, resilient, sensible, hard-working, interested in science.
Dickens Class: Thoughts on our pantomime visit:
Summary of what you did : We went to Peterlee Collage to watch the story of Dick Wittington. We had snacks and juice whilst we enjoyed a play.
What did you like about the visit?: I liked the cat: it was so funny. I liked that everyone was happy and it showed me everyone can be an actor if they want. I liked that the story had a happy ending.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? I learned that no matter who you are you are worthy and brave. The story taught me that.
What will you tell others about the visitor? I would tell others they should go and see it because it was such a great experience. I am really lucky to have went.
Which careers/jobs did you see? Actor/actress, sound engineer, movie producer, musician, camera person, photographer, production set workers, script writers

Dickens Class: Thoughts on Skipping Day:
Summary of what you did : We learned different skipping skills such as butterfly, red arrows, infinity and double bounce. We really enjoyed being active and have showed some of our family and friends our new skills.
What did you like about the visit?: We liked being active and learning things we had not done before. It was fun playing games. I didn’t know we could do so much with a skipping rope. Being outside was fun.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? How do to do different skips, play games and how to make skipping more fun. You don’t just have to skip – you can do so much more.
What will you tell others about the visitor? It was really good and active. Anybody could do it, you should push yourself to be more active.
Which careers/jobs did you see? a skipping teacher, PE teacher, Athlete, Boxer, gymnast
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Being active, resilient, being fun, determined, confident
Tolkien Class: Thoughts on our visit from The Life Centre with the Pop up Planetarium:
Summary of what you did : There was an Inflatable planetarium in the hall from Centre for Life Newcastle. We went on a space themed mission and worked as a team to get safely back to Earth.
What did you like about the visitor?: It was all around you when you were inside the dome – 3D Lots of discussion about what was happening Nice atmosphere inside Seeing scout the robot Resources we could get our hands on Loved the adventure and problem solving Multi-sensory – listening, looking and smelling
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? What the moon is made out of Asteroid was over 4,000,000 years old Morse code What it was like being in a space ship in space
What will you tell others about the visitor? We explored the atmosphere We went to the moon in space We held an asteroid We learnt morse code

Tolkien Class: Thoughts on Skipping Day:
Summary of what you did : We went on the little yard and we did different skipping skills (paired skipping, butterfly, big jump rope, beat the rope, red arrows, keep the pot boiling)
What did you like about the visit?: Different games with the long rope. The lady did a demo before we had a go
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? Butterfly skipping. The skipping rope doesn’t hurt when it hits you. How to use a skipping rope correctly
What will you tell others about the visitor? It is really fun and it is a really calming experience

What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Organisation Skipping skills! Patience
Dickens Class: Thoughts on Restart a Heart Day CPR session:
Summary of what you did : We learned how to recognise if someone could be having a heart attack. Then, we learned how to perform CPR to different songs. The songs help you remember how long and how many times.
What did you like about the visit?: I liked being able to learn on a mannequin. I liked how it could help us learn to save a life in case we ever need to.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? We learned that how to ring for an ambulance and what we need to say. We learned that if someone is choking, you should hit their back to try and get it out or you could wrap your arms around them and squeeze. We saw a defibrillator and learned how to use it.
What will you tell others about the visitor? It is really good and it could help you save someone’s like one day

Dickens Class: Thoughts on TINARTS Pulse Session:
Summary of what you did : We started by moving to shapes in space like moon, sun, earth, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus. We made a routine using the shapes and then we had the watched the dancers perform all of the shapes we had learned.
What did you like about the visit?: I liked the dancing. The people doing it were really nice. I liked that it was different to the normal kind of dancing I have seen. The screen the dancers danced behind made it feel really space-like.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? It helped me learn more about science and space. I learned lots of new dance moves. I didn’t know you could dance for a job. I learned there were lots of different planets and that Venus was the god of love.
What will you tell others about the visitor? You can learn about space through dancing. Even if you don’t like dancing, you should try it, It is surprising. I could watch it for hours

Tolkien Class: Thoughts on Restart a Heart Day CPR session:
Summary of what you did : We learned how to do CPR on adults, children and babies. We looked at equipment and wore uniforms.
What did you like about the visit?: I liked wearing the uniforms It made me think I could help my grandad who has had heart problems Everybody got to have a turn I like how they taught us They were friendly They used people as examples
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? How to help someone with heart problems How to perform CPR How to save a life Anyone can help with the right training How to help someone choking
What will you tell others about the visitor? It was really good and it could save someone’s life.

Tolkien Class: Thoughts on TINARTS Pulse Session:
Summary of what you did : We did a range of different movements and watched two ladies dance. The abstract dance was about the solar system
What did you like about the visit?: I liked watching the ladies dance. I liked how they picked their lighting and it changed colours. I liked how they made the sounds of the moon. I like the effects and the light changes. The shadows were amazing. It was very emotional. They were physically impressive.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? I have learned that dancing is for anybody. I learned new dance moves. You can dance at any age. I learned about flexible dancing.
What will you tell others about the visitor? I would tell people that it was inspiring.
