Activators

What is an Activator?

Our Indoor Activators are helping us be active! They have worked as a team to create lots of active brain breaks for our school. Some of these activities use no equipment, use bean bags or use the whiteboard. Throughout our school day, the activators deliver these active brain breaks in KS1 and KS2. This quick break helps everyone then refocus on their lesson.  Activities they enjoy doing include guess the phonatom, bean bag slide, Just Dance, beach ball timestables and walk like animals!

Our Outdoor Activators are helping to promote vigorous physical activity whilst having fun at playtimes and lunchtimes. They have worked as a team alongside Mr Varty to develop a bank of fun activities that they promote whilst playing outside. Activities they enjoy doing include stuck in the mud, duck duck goose, domes and dishes and fruit salad!

Hello, we are the Indoor Activators!

In our school, every class from Year 2 to Year 6 has two Indoor Activators. We go to meetings every Monday to learn new games that we can play with our classmates. Some of our favourite games are SPLAT! and Beanbag Times Tables!

We help keep everyone in our class active and make sure we do active maths every day. Each week, we fill in our Active Minutes Sheet to keep track of how much activity we’ve done. The class with the most active minutes wins the Golden Trainer and gets extra break time – which everyone loves!

Hello, we are the Outdoor Activators!

We are a group of children from Year 5. Every Wednesday, we meet with Mr Varty to learn lots of fun games that we can teach to others.

At break time and lunchtime, we lead games for everyone to join in — from the younger children in Year 1 all the way up to Year 6! Some of our favourite games are Duck, Duck, Goose, Treasure Island, SPLAT!, Stuck in the Mud, and Fruit Salad.

We’ve also been to special Skipping and Hula Hoop training! Now we’re starting to use what we’ve learned to teach even more games so that everyone in our school can have fun, keep active, and play together during break and lunch.

What are we doing?

April 2026

In April 2026, we met as pupil councillors and activators to review feedback on playtimes and agreed actions for our new display board. We also promoted the Coxhoe Code: be kind, be respectful, be safe, be honest and be the best you can be. We delivered an assembly to the whole school, encouraging everyone to follow the Coxhoe Code during playtimes. We also introduced a new initiative, “Playtime Superstar”, where children can be nominated for demonstrating positive behaviour and helping to make playtimes safe, friendly, and enjoyable for all.

March 2026

On 26th March 2026, we met as councillors and activators with Miss Calvert and Mrs Tufts for a pupil council meeting. We focused on improving playtimes, including creating clear rules, celebrating positive play, and developing a display board to share successes and gather pupil feedback. We shared ideas such as introducing rewards, improving supervision in key areas, adding playground signage, and developing a hub or base space on the yard. We also discussed ways to support EYFS pupils with their transition to the main playground.
