Mini Police

What is the Mini Police?

The Mini Police project within Durham Constabulary is a fun and interactive volunteering opportunity for 9 to 11-year-old children. The Mini Police support the force priorities, through participation in school and community engagement events. Those involved can look forward to developing a confident voice through enjoyable experiencences.

Children who become part of the programme can help to tackle local issues, as highlighted by their own communities. By assisting the police service, they also carry that ownership and pride back into the community they live in.

What are we doing?

Police HQ visit - November 2024

28th November 2024

The Mini Police visited the Police Headquarters in Aykley Heads. We spoke to different police officers who told us about their jobs and what they entail. Finally, we were lucky enough to go inside of a real control room and see how they answer 101 and 999 calls.

24th October 2024

We delivered a Durham County Council road safety assembly to Year 2, 3 4 and 5. We gave them information, asked them questions and listened to their answers carefully. At the end of the assembly, we set them a challenge to design a reflective outfit for people who are planning on being outdoors in the dark. We will pick the winner soon and put the best ones on the webpage!

What are we doing?

October 2024

We were very excited to help in our hub launch where we welcomed parents, carers and members of the local community to celebrate with us. We talked to people, greeted people and even got involved with some of the amazing activities that we offer.

July 2024

We supported with our school Summer Fair and we helped to run different stalls. We walked around and welcomed our local community and made sure that people felt safe at our school event.
