Please ensure your child brings the following to school every day...
Labelled water bottle containing water.
Their book bag containing their planner and reading book.
Your child may also want to bring in their own snack each day. Please ensure that this is a healthy snack such as fruit or a cereal bar. Reminder: our school is nut free.
Our PE day is a Tuesday. Children must come into school in their kit with suitable footwear. Please ensure your child has jogging bottoms for colder days, as we spend a lot of our time outdoors.

Dahl Class: Thoughts on Adam Bushnell
Summary of what you did: We made pictures of animals in different habitats. We met Jet the tortoise. We got to create our own animals with different features from each habitat. We got to play with some toy creatures and imagine what habitat they would live in
What did you like about the visitor? Adam Bushnell brought his tortoise and let us stroke his shell. I liked that we got to learn about what creatures live in different habitats and what features a tortoise has. I liked when Jet the tortoise was crawling around and had a bumblebee costume.
What new knowledge have you gained from this visit? I was surprised that some animals live on land when I thought they lived in water. I learnt that tortoises might live near rock pools.
What will you tell others about the trip? It was an amazing visit! It was funny when Jet the tortoise wore different costumes I liked when Jet was crawling around the classroom
Which careers/jobs did you see on the visit? Someone who takes care of animals like a zookeeper, teach children, Author
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Good at public speaking, Neat writing Creative, Big imagination.

Dahl Class: Thoughts on Hoopstarz Day
Summary of what you did: We made a tent with hula hoops, did lots of hula hooping and learnt lots of skills like a 360, slinky, eyes closed, jumping in the air and putting all the skills together
What did you like about the visitor? Jumping in the air while spinning the hoop, making a tent out of hula hoops, when we had to hold two hoops up for our partner to try and crawl under and dancing to the music
What new knowledge have you gained from this visit? You have to put one foot in front of the other and you have to rock your tummy forwards and backwards, two hoops together makes a butterfly and how to hop 3 times with a hula hoop
What will you tell others about the trip? You get to make a tent out of hula hoops!, t was incredible!, It was amazing! and when you had to find a partner to share hula hoops with it was really fun
Which careers/jobs did you see on the visit? People who teach kids how to hula hoop
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? You need to know how to hula hoop, hto be strong and confident and you need to be caring and loving
Milne Class: Thoughts on Captain Chemistry
Summary of what you did: We looked inside of owl pellets and found bones from other animals. We learnt about how owls eat other animals and we matched the bones to different animals pictures.
What did you like about the visitor? Digging in the pellets to find bones using the tweezers. Looking at animals bones with microscope. Learning about what owls eat.
What new knowledge have you gained from this visit? We learnt about different animals that owls eat. We learnt that bones don’t get broken down when they are eaten.
What will you tell others about the visit? It was really fun! We could dig in real mud to find real bones.

What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Confident to teach people
Milne Class: Thoughts on Hoopstarz Day
Summary of what you did: We learnt to hula hoop and to do tricks with the hoop.
What did you like about the visitor? We learnt how to spin the penny – AT; I liked when we put 2 hoops together to do a trick – OT; I enjoyed jumping in and out of the hoops – ZR; We liked learning new skills so we can do these outside at playtime; I liked how we learnt how to control the hoop – SD and I loved doing a slinky with my eyes closed - FW
What new knowledge have you gained from this visit? We can spin the hoop and do a crisscross with it – CB; We can control the hoop and teach others the new skills; We can balance and be patient and We can have resilience by trying again - FB
What will you tell others about the trip? It was exciting – BH; It was fun – EW and We can teach others how to do different tricks like spinning it around our neck - EI
Which careers/jobs did you see on the visit? Hoop teacher, PE teacher, Circus worker that does tricks, Entertainer and Sports leader
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? You need to be friendly, helpful, have good balance and communication skills.
Dahl Class: Thoughts on Chatwells DT Workshop
Summary of what you did: We made caterpillars out of vegetables. We learnt about how important healthy diets are and we tasted the caterpillars once we had made them.
What did you like about the visitor? We liked trying new vegetables. I liked learning a lot more about the 5 food groups. The lesson was so good and I loved learning new things!
What new knowledge have you gained from this visit? Carbohydrates give us more energy than vegetables. If you try some new things your taste buds will change and you might end up liking them! You have to try something 30 times before you actually like it!
What will you tell others about the visit? It was very fun and you get to make caterpillars and learn about the 5 food groups! You should try new things that you might not have liked before!
Which careers/jobs did you see on the visit?Chartwells make our school dinners. You could work in different schools to teach children about how to eat healthy.
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Good knowledge of dieting, how to eat healthy and different food groups. Confident to teach people.
Milne Class: Thoughts on Harvest Festival celebration
Summary of what you did: We went to the St Mary’s Church for our Harvest Festival performance. We performed Cauliflowers Fluffy and Harvest Samba to an audience. We also listened to the service about why Harvest is important.
What did you like about the visitor? We sang our song to everyone. We saw the golden eagle on the lectern. We listened to everyone else sing. At the end when we all sung together. When all the grown ups clapped at us singing.
What new knowledge have you gained from this visit? We could see the lectern we have been learning about. We got to understand the story about the rich man and the old lady and why it is important to give what we can to help others.
What will you tell others about the trip? It was fantastic!
What careers/jobs did you see on the visit? priest, vicar, cleaner, teacher, stain glass window maker, stone mason.
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Clear speaker, reading loud and clear, patience, good communication, good listening, understanding of The Bible, love of God, kind, caring.
Milne and Dahl Class: Thoughts on their visit to Hardwick Park
Summary of what you did: We learnt about woodpeckers, rabbits, beavers and bees. We learnt about nature. We made dams out of sticks and leaves and rabbit warrens out of pipes. We looked for human and physical features around the park.
What did you like about the visit? Learning about science and learning about 4 different animals. We did geography looking for human and physical features in the park. We looked at the habitats of a rabbit, beaver, bees and a woodpecker. We made a nest for a bird, we made a dam for the beaver and a rabbit warren.
What new knowledge have you gained from this visit? Woodpeckers can make holes in trees with their beaks. Beavers can stop floods by using stick and leaves to make dams. Woodpeckers can get the bark off the trees and feed insects. European beavers were in the park but lots of hunters have hunted them for their fur so they are becoming extinct. Hardwick Park hopes they can save them.
Dahl Class: Thoughts on Harvest Festival celebration
Summary of what you did: We went to St Marys Church to celebrate Harvest Festival. We sang the song ‘A Very Special Vegetable’.
What did you like about the visitor? HB – I liked listening to everyone sing and I liked when Mr Varty dressed up as an old lady. LM – I liked when we sang the very special vegetable song. MD – I liked when the Year 6 children read at the front of the church.
What new knowledge have you gained from this visit? SN – The story Mr Mason told taught me that it takes a lot of courage to give to others. JLG – We saw the lectern that the Bible is kept on!
What will you tell others about the trip? VW – You need to have respect in the church! EM – The church is a nice place to listen and learn about Christianity
What careers/jobs did you see on the visit? Priest, vicar, teacher, head teacher, deputy head teacher
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Vicar – know a lot about God and Christianity, you would need to be confident to speak in front of people..
Milne and Dahl Class: Thoughts on their visit to Hardwick Park
What will you tell others about the visit? It was amazing! It was really good and I enjoyed it. It is a good place to visit to learn about animals that live in a woodland.
Which careers/jobs did you see on the visit? Phil took care of the park and made sure that the food chain stayed intact by taking care of the animals. Durham County Council worker. Park ranger. Cleaner for the toilet, Caretaker, Coffee shop worker, Teacher.
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? You need to be good at taking care of things and looking after the park. You would need to know a lot about insects and animals. To know about animals and habitats. Shop – maths, Science skills, How to be safe in the park, Caring, Good listening, Kind
