Autumn Term
What we have said about enrichment this term:
Murphy Class: Thoughts on Restart a Heart Day:
Summary of what you did: We were doing CPR and we learnt how to do it. You don’t just do it straight away, you check to see if they are breathing by checking with your two fingers on their forehead and neck. If they are not breathing, you perform CPR.
Putting your hands together and put them between your nipple line and keeping your elbows straight you push down hard, putting your body over the top of someone and with a steady rhythm you push up and down to re start the heart and get the blood pumping again.
We learnt how to treat people if they choke. Using the palm of your hand you hit their back five times. If that doesn’t work you put your arms around the person and pull your hands and arms in 5 times and call 999.
We would shout for help and call 999.
What did you like about the visit?: I liked that I learnt how to do CPR on adults, children and babies – Emily. I liked that we got to try on the NHS costumes – Enzo. I liked the part when we did CPR on the babies with two fingers – Lucy.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? To make sure if someone chokes, you hit their back 5 times. I did not know it was that many times and that hard. – Charlie. I learned how to help people if they choke. – Disha.
What will you tell others about the visit? It is a life lesson to save a life. You use your two fingers only to help babies if their heart stops. It is really important to know CPR especially if your friend stops breathing or chokes.
Which careers/jobs did you see? Nurse, doctors, ambulance driver.
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? You would need to be a good listener, know how to do CPR, good eye sight, caring, careful, kind, respectful, science, maths.
Morpurgo Class: Thoughts on Harvest Festival celebrations:
Summary of what you did: We walked to the church and ang our harvest festival songs. Then, we listened to the story told by Mr Mason. Afer that, we listened to Year 1 and Year 5 singing their songs.
What did you like about the visit? I loved singing the song, I liked listening to other people, it was nice singing altogether. We enjoyed Mr Mason telling the story. It was fun walking to the church.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? Our new knowledge is linked to RE. We have learnt how to be safe on the road. I have learnt about what harvest is. Being grateful is important at harvest and you should give from the heart. We learned how to sing our new song.
What will you tell others about the visit? We had a fun time. That harvest is about being grateful. That praying is how you talk to God.
What careers/jobs did you see? Minister, headteacher, deputy head teacher and teachers.
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? You need to be helpful, brave, be very good at RE, kind, loving and religious.
Murphy Class: Thoughts on Harvest Festival celebrations:
Summary of what you did: We walked to our local church and celebrated harvest with the local community, parents and vicar.
What did you like about the visit? I liked the inside of the church – Lucy. I liked all of the people singing and watching then – Charlie. I liked the walk on the way back when we all sang happily – Jessica.
What new knowledge have you gained from this experience? That a rich man gave money to the Temple and threw it all away and did not give it with heart like the old lady did and she didn’t have a lot – Alaya.
What will you tell others about the visit? There were different donations given. The songs we sang about harvest and the messages from the Vicar and Mr Mason.
What careers/jobs did you see? Vicar, Minister and Priest.
What skills/qualities would you need to do that career/job? Listening, communication and religion.
