Spring Term
What our children in Year 1 children say about curriculum enrichment this term...
When story teller and author Adam Bushnell came to work with us in Year 1, we designed our own dragons and coloured them in and Adam showed us some props. We liked the props an creating our own dragon. We also liked learning about an author's job (Alaya and Reggie)
During our Dogs Trust workshop, we got to take the toy dog for a walk and we learnt to take care of dogs like leaving them alone when they are sleeping and eating. We liked watching the videos and pretending to play with the dog (Henry and Ava)
We visited the Locomotion Museum in Shildon because in history we were learning about the Northeast Railways. We looked at different trains and created train logo prints with crayons. We liked seeing the electric trains, learning about steam trains and getting to go inside a train. If we went again we would like to go on more trains (Travis and Elijah). At Shildon Locomotion Museum we played a cup and plate challenge game and we looked at old trains - even the Queen's train! I liked seeing the trains because it reminds me of when my dad was a train driver (Willow)
This term we went on a geography walk around Coxhoe Village. We had a map and a list of things to find and we made a tally of all of the traffic. We enjoyed counting different things and being outside in the sunshine (Emily and Louis)
How can we write new lyrics to add a verse to a song? Today we sang a well known folk song and worked together to write new lyrics. We hope you like it...
Autumn Term

This term we visited the cinema to watch The Snail and the Whale and Stickman by Julia Donaldson. We liked this because we got to watch two films! (Emily and Imogen)
We visited the Baltic in Newcastle and drew some bridges. We liked smelling the flowers at the Baltic (Emily and Imogen). We got to visit an art gallery and walk across the Tyne bridge (Daisy)
During our Chartwells workshop, I enjoyed making caterpillars out of different fruit (Ava). I enjoyed learning about healthy foods and then trying the different fruit and vegetables (Archie)
As part of our computing lessons, we went on a technology walk around Coxhoe. Did you know that traffic lights, automatic shop doors and street lights are all technology? (Willow). We enjoyed finding how technology was used in Coxhoe (Henry and Elijah)
Hargreaves class took part in a Go Well Sporting event at Sedgefield Community College. Take a look at what we got up to...
In Music we have been learning an Autumn song; Apple Tree.
Apple tree, apple tree
Will your apples fall on me?
I won't cry, I won't shout
If your apples knock me out!
Children have developed the use of pulse and tone and today, have written new lyrics to the song. Listen to our own version, Chestnut Tree...
