What we say about RE at Coxhoe Primary
Our RE lead, Miss Pinkerton, says...
At Coxhoe Primary School, we believe that our RE curriculum provides pupils with the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of a wide range of views and beliefs that reflects our diverse society in order for children to show mutual respect towards others. Children acquire core knowledge and understanding through engaging lessons in class, including drawing, stories and drama, which is reinforced through enrichment opportunities from visits, visitors and workshops. Children are also given the opportunity to become critical thinkers as they are encouraged to question values and beliefs and many lessons will spark a 'big' question leading to further enquiry. The final piece of the puzzle is personal reflection as children think about how their learning relates to them or how it impacts their thinking. RE is based around these key elements allowing for a rich learning experience.
Our Year 6 RE Ambassadors say...
Hello! We are the R.E ambassadors and we really enjoy learning about how people live their lives and what is important to them. In Coxhoe Primary School RE is always fun. We learn in lots of different ways including drawing, drama, practical activities and visitors to help us remember key information. We also learn outside of the classroom through visits to different places of worship.
Statements from the children.....
Judaism is important because it is an important religion. We learn alot about the religion and we link it to other religions in many ways. Such as, the books they read, the gods they worship and the different roles people have within the religion.
Christianity is important to me because it teaches you about God and Jesus and the love they have for you. Jesus died for our sins and I believe he looks after us. Would there be a world without God? Do you have a favourite topic in RE?
Children across the school say...
"I like learning about Jesus including different facts about him."
"I like to show what I have learnt through writing and drawing."
"I enjoyed making a wreath all about advent."
"We enjoyed using an S plan to show a journey like we do in English."
"I enjoy all of the different activities in our lessons."
"I enjoy learning about different religions and how religious people live their lives."

Careers - Where can studying Religious Education take you?
Curriculum Intent
At Coxhoe Primary School, we believe that Religious Education provides our pupils with the opportunity to study religious and non-religious world views. It aims to promote mutual respect, tolerance and understanding of other’s faiths and beliefs in our diverse society. Our curriculum reflects the fact that the religious traditions of Great Britain are in the main Christian, whilst taking account of the teachings and practices of the other principal religions represented in Great Britain. Teaching is non-denominational and is not designed to convert pupils or urge a particular religion or set of beliefs on pupils. It provides the opportunity for them to critically respond to different views and beliefs, along with encouraging personal reflection.

Diwali
This week at school, we have been celebrating Diwali - the festival of light. We learnt all about what Diwali is and the different things people do to celebrate this all around the world. We have done lots of fun activities this week including using clay to make our very own diva lamps. We dressed up in our role play area and made some beautiful rangoli patterns.
