World Book Day 2021

 ≈How you can celebrate a very 2021 World Book Day on Thursday 4 March! |  National Literacy Trust

World Book Day book tokens are in school and will be given out when we return in week beginning 8th March.

Today it is World Book Day. Usually, this would be a day in school, where we would dress up, read lots of different books to other classes, enjoy stories from lots of different authors and most of all have fun. But do not worry.  Underneath there is a number of activities that you can take part in to celebrate the day. Choose one, two or a few and send your amazing work to our home learning email boxes.

EYFS & KS1 Activities 

Reading Challenge

Tick off a Reading Star each time you complete a reading task and have fun reaching all your stars! Send in your pictures to show us where you are reading and who you are reading to.

Scavenger Hunt

I wonder what you can find by reading a book? Can you find a witch? a frog? something that makes you laugh?

Make yourself into a Reading Star!

Paint, decorate and make the reading stars as glittery as you can, then add a picture of yourself in the middle. Bring them back into school with you on March 8th and we will add them to our class reading displays.

Play our Elmer Dice Game with a friend - have some number and colouring fun!

KS2 Activities 

Scavenger Hunt

Record your own masked reader video:

Find a funny outfit or mask and record yourself reading your favourite short story. If you don’t have the book you may be able to find the story on YouTube. You could download a blank mask here, create your own mask and use that to record your video.

World book day character selfies:

Using the worksheet attached draw a picture of each of the famous characters.

Create your very own book:

Using the instructions in the document attached create your own book. Then write a story or create a story using pictures.

Word art:

Using the webpage https://wordart.com/ create a wordle about your favourite book, author or story. You could include characters, key events or feelings the story gives you.

Charades for favourite book:

Act our your favourite book or character. Get the people around you to mess who you are. Swap roles and turn this into a fun game for everyone to play.

Map making:

Create a map of a place described in a book, such as Narnia, Hogwarts or Gruffalo wood.

Great British Book Off:

Bake things mentioned in your favourite books and have a Great British Book Off.

Story Map (with a difference)

Outside in your garden, use coloured chalk to draw a story map of your favourite book which you can then follow  - video yourself retelling the story.

Lingotot World Book Day Online Festival

Lingotot are hosting an online festival to celebrate World Book Day from 9 -12 on the morning of Thursday 4th March.

They have stories for children from Reception to Year 6 - from the Gruffalo in Spanish to Harry Potter in German there's something here for everyone!
